Jennifer Shrader Lawrence (born August 15, 1990) is an American actress and producer who quickly became one of the world's highest-paid and most acclaimed stars of her generation. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, she left school early to pursue acting, gaining her breakthrough with the Oscar-nominated role in the 2010 independent drama Winter's Bone. Lawrence achieved international superstardom for portraying the mutant Mystique in the X-Men series and, most notably, the iconic heroine Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games film series, which established her as the highest-grossing action heroine of all time. Her collaborative work with director David O. Russell brought her widespread critical recognition, culminating in her winning the Academy Award for Best Actress at age 22 for Silver Linings Playbook (2012), making her the second-youngest winner in that category. After a brief hiatus, Lawrence returned to acting and producing with films like Don't Look Up and the comedy No Hard Feelings. Beyond acting, she is a vocal advocate for women's rights and co-founded the nonpartisan anti-corruption organisation RepresentUs.
